About John Magao

John was a graduate of Redwood High School in 2004 with a GPA of 4.0, stayed at College of Sequoias and pursued Pharmacy Tech instead of his dream of going to UOP School of Pharmacy just so his mother would not be home alone because his stepfather was deployed to Iraq. He was working as a Pharmacy Tech at Tulare District Hospital and was on his way home from work when died of a motorcycle accident.

John was a very sweet, caring, fun and loving child. He made many friends during the short 20 years that he was with us. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He loved to play his ukulele and guitar when he is not reading books or studying. He loved to ride his Harley and Ducati motorcycles and go on sunset rides with his stepfather and his best friend when he is not working or at school. He has his own sunset route that he takes them to. He loved fishing, snowboarding and body boarding. He loved visiting his brother and nieces and sister-in-law in Hawaii. He also loved his work at Tulare District Hospital Pharmacy Department.

John was loved by many and gained many friends from school and his work. He tutored many friends and family in his excelled subject of math.

During his “wake” service, a lady approached John’s mom and said “I was failing my Pharmacology class, but John stayed and tutored me patiently after classes”.

We started the John Paul Magao Memorial Scholarship Foundation to help other kids achieve their goal, the goal of being a pharmacist that John did not get a chance to reach, and knowing him, he would have. This is also another way to continue what John wanted to do best, tutoring & helping others with education.
